ABOUT

March 2018

Eloise Events was created by friends, Maggie and Steph, who started off arranging local craft fairs.  Both crafters themselves, they found there was little on offer in the area, so held Ladies' Shopping Evenings to give local crafters a platform to sell their wares.

The name Eloise came from their joint love of The Damned's version of the song, 'Eloise'.

After a number of successful shopping evenings, Maggie introduced Steph to Steampunk, something she now realises she had been most of her life, without knowing there was a name for it, or a movement related to it.  And their Steampunk journey began.  It soon became clear, that whilst there were many Steampunk events large and small around the country, there was very little going on in Northants.  So, they decided to put their event organising heads together and move Eloise Events into a new direction.  In order to keep the name, they created it as an acronym, East-Northants League of Inimitable Steampunk Enthusiasts.

In March 2018, the first Eloise Steampunk event was held at The World Upside Down, in Raunds.  With no idea how many people would show up, Maggie & Steph were delighted with the 20 or so arrivals.  Some very local, some from as far as Northampton and Bedford.  Proof positive that there were local Steampunks keen to get out and about.  After two more successful evenings at The World Upside Down, a new venue was located.

We have been our new home, Rushden, Higham and Wellingborough Transport Museum, where we gather in a carriage, attached to a steam engineand on the platform, when weather allows  Surely, you can't get more Steampunk than that!  The Museum staff are very excited to have us on board (pun intended), and are arranging a large Halloween Spooktacular with a Steampunk theme.  As you might expect, we will be helping them where we can.

We would like to put on record, our thanks to The World Upside Down, who allowed us to use their premises for the first three events.

What an eventful year!  Having settled into almost monthly meets at Rushden Station, we were delighted to help out at their Steampunk Spooktactular in Oct 18.  As well as having a stall at the event, we also held demos of tea-duelling and Eloise's very own original creation - tea-cup racing!

Over the winter months, things got a little quiet, as you might expect, but once the weather started to warm, we began in earnest to arrange our 1st birthday celebrations.  In April, we held our Pirate Party back at where it all began at The World Upside Down.  It was the pub's unofficial opening of their newly built back garden, where we held our 'Walk The Plank' game, held a BBQ and witnessed a very serious duel between our resident pirate Pod and our own Dandy Highwayman, James!!  Both escaped without injury, in time to partake in the treasure hunt and tea-cup racing.  All in all, we had lots of fun and are already enjoying our second year.

Many members attended 'The Town That Never Was' in June.  It was a fantastic event, organised by the Ministry of Steampunk, who also organise 'The Asylum' in Lincoln each year.  We thoroughly recommend you check out the main act from the evening, Wight Hot Pipes.  What a great show they put on!
