What is Steampunk?
Local Eloise Events
Other Events

Briefly, Steampunk is a creative social movement that draws inspiration from Victorian and pre-war history in an anachronistic mix of science

fiction, modern values and a sense of fun.  It draws from literary, industrial and fashion trends relating to Victorian times and the way they saw how the future would be.  A genre of science fiction that has a historical setting and typically features steam-powered machines rather than advanced

technology.  So think, Jules Verne (20,000 leagues Under the Sea), HG Wells (The Time Machine), corsets, bustles, brass goggles, pith helmets & steam power.  Examples of Steampunk can be seen in the movies, such as Wild Wild West, Sherlock Holmes, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Hellboy (The Golden Army) and, most recently, Mortal Engines.  Steampunk is all-inclusive, many of us draw on other influences, such as, post-apocalyptic (e.g. Mad Max), Gothic and the Wild West. The only limit is your imagination.

At ELOISE, we welcome the  “steam-curious” – so. say hello and ask questions.

There are no barriers to steampunk – and frighteningly for some, no rules about what exactly steampunk is!

Eloise Events organises monthly meetings for Steampunks to gather and socialise in a fun and friendly environment.  Whilst based in East Northants, some of our regular core of members travel from Northampton and Bedford, as well as more local towns, such as Raunds, Rushden, Irchester and Kettering.
We welcome anyone with an interest in Steampunk to join us.  To keep ourselves entertained, we sometimes partake of tea-duelling, tea-cup racing and playing of strange and wonderful instruments, among other things.  We also hold bring and buy sales of new and pre-loved items.

We visit other events around the country, either as individuals, or as a group, whilst proudly donning our ELOISE rosettes and badges.

Many of us attend The Asylum at Lincoln in August.  This is the largest Steampunk festival in the world.  Events that are also popular with us so far, but not exclusively, are The Town That Never Was at Blists Hill Victorian Town at Ironbridge, Nene Valley Steam at Wansford Station, Whitby Steampunk Weekend, with more being added to the list as time goes on.

If you ever see us out and about, please say hello.
